Youth Performing Company

Empowering young dance artists to find and develop their creative voices.

Blacksburg Dance Theater's Youth Performing Company (YPC) is a dedicated group of older students who are ready to take the next step in their dance education. YPC dancers commit to a more rigorous dance schedule, community service, and additional performance opportunities. This program fosters a strong sense of community while encouraging personal growth, confidence, and creative expression in a supportive, inclusive environment.

Due to the popularity of our YPC program, we are excited to expand the program for Fall 2026!

The YPC that has traditionally served dancers ages 11+ will now become our YPC Senior Company, while we introduce a new YPC Junior Company for dancers ages 9-12. Both companies are invite-only and are designed to provide age-appropriate opportunities for dancers to grow as artists, performers, and members of the BDT community.

Participation in the Youth Performing Company includes the following:

  • Fall/spring recitals + special YPC choreography showing

  • Volunteer outreach performances for the residents at Warm Hearth Village and other community venues

  • Opportunities to mentor and educate younger dancers through planning and implementing Love Your Body Week activities at the studio.

  • Eligibility for membership in the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA).
